Aviator Sports and Recreation is a new 25 acre sports and entertainment facility in Brooklyn, NY. This complex is a reclamation of four of the historic hangars of Floyd Bennett Field, New York City’s first municipal airport. Floyd Bennet Field was decommissioned in 1972 and is now part of the fourth most visited national park in the national park system – Gateway National Recreation Area. In the Fall of 2006 Aviator Sports and Recreation will re-open four rehabilitated airplane hangars and surrounding land as a dynamic, state-of-the-art, community based sports, recreation and entertainment complex. Aviator Sports and Recreation is expected to exceed 1.5 million visits in the first year of operation.
