Unique MLB Walk-Up and Warm-Up Songs

You might recognize those lyrics from The Troggs song, “Wild Thing.” The incredibly catchy the song is near and dear to sports fans heart due to its use in the 1989 movie “Major League.” The song, covered by X makes an appearance in the film when Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn played by Charlie Sheen, a hard-throwing closer for the underdog Cleveland Indians enters to the song. The crowd goes crazy; are opponents are intimidated and Vaughn gives them the heater.

While batters and pitchers have had walk-up and warm-up songs, it was picked by stadium staff. “Major League” wasn’t the direct reason for players starting to request songs but it wasn’t too long after the movie came out that baseball players began to make requests. This article lends some insight into Lenny Dykstra making song requests and how the Mariners chose songs for their players.

Rock, metal and rap music primarily dominate player music and rightfully so, they can do a great job of getting the player and crowd amped up.
