1. Who is FC Copa Academy?
FC Copa Academy is a professional soccer organization founded in 2004. They are a year-round soccer development program for boys and girls assisting players in reaching their greatest potential. The focus is on educating the complete player with a knowledgeable and caring staff. FC Copa Academy fields both boys and girls teams in each age group from U7 through U19 and beyond. FC Copa Academy teams compete in premier level leagues, tournaments, showcases, and competitions locally, regionally and nationally. FC Copa is one of the only clubs who has a full-time Director of Academic Guidance, who works to help players find the right college fit that meets their athletic ambitions, and most importantly their academic ones.
FC Copa Academy has appeared in 26 state, 19 regional and 7 national finals & championships while having one of the highest college placement rates in the country, both soccer and academic, having placed over 325 students into 153 collegiate programs and developing over 24 professional and national/international team players.
2. What is FC Copa Academy’s soccer philosophy?
The FC Copa Academy soccer philosophy is defined by its curriculum which is the foundation of the development program. They strive to focus on a high technical proficiency and a possession-based style which encourages creativity. The culture of the organization reflects their view that the necessity to win every game is not a goal: they view winning as an outcome of the development that the club focuses on. FC Copa Academy is devoted to the growth and advancement of every player, from the very youngest to the most senior athletes. The FC Copa Academy philosophy of development is transmitted through each team, regardless of their age or gender.
3. What is the new entity FC Copa Academy at Aviator?
Launching in April 2020, FC Copa Academy will make its best-in-class soccer and academic programs accessible to the local community at Aviator Sports Center, extending the opportunity for boys and girls players to train and compete at the highest levels to all in Brooklyn and the New York City area.
4. What Types of Programs Are Offered by FC Copa?
FC Copa Academy is supplemented through FC Copa Training Programs, FC Copa Camps and FC Copa Elite College Programs. FC Copa Academy offers teams for boys and girls, ages 6-18 years old, that serves as a year-round soccer development program and assists players in reaching their greatest potential – both on and off the field, including our Summer Select Program.
FC Copa Training Programs offer a base program intended to bring boys and girls from the ages of 18 Months to 15 Years to learn in a fun and educational environment. The introduction to the Copa Way is fueled by coaches who love the game, and lays the foundation to give their players the confidence and skills to seamlessly advance with age into their Academy Teams.
In addition, they offer specialized training through the Copa Fit , Copa Keepers and Copa Ball Mastery Programs. Copa Play allows weekly games in a structured environment supervised by our FC Copa Coaches to incorporate all the skills players have developed throughout the week and our FC Copa Futsal Academy program develops soccer skills to new heights via Futsal training and participation in meaningful games. FC Copa Camps are open to boys and girls aged 5 to 16 years old and of all skill levels who have a passion for the game. At FC Copa, players learn The Copa Way in a structured and supervised environment to help reach their playing goals, sharpen their skills and make friends along the way. FC Copa Summer Camps offer matches in age and skill level through Intro Camps for boys and girls players ages 5 to 14 who are looking to just have some fun & learn the basics, Advanced Camps for boys and girls players ages 7-16 who want to bring their game to the next level and Preseason Team Camps to give your squad an advantage for the upcoming season.
Finally, FC Copa offers an Elite College Program to Men’s and Women’s players through their U20, U23 and UWS Women’s Teams for players providing high level competition for top current/post collegiate players and aspiring/former professionals.
5. Will FC Copa Academy be leaving the Rutgers area?
No, FC Copa will continue to run its existing academy and programs out of Central New Jersey and Rutgers University, where they have been for over 16 years. Their goal is to offer the same level of focus, commitment and dedication to player development locally in Brooklyn and the New York City area.
6. My child was involved in the soccer program with the previous partner. How will the new FC Copa Academy at Aviator Partnership affect them?
Aviator has ended its partnership with Dutch Total Soccer (DTS). DTS programming at Aviator will cease this April at the end of their Academy Season. Under this new, long-term agreement, Aviator Sports & Events Center has chosen FC Copa Academy as its exclusive partner for all Academies, Camps and Soccer Training.
7. Will there be parent or professional coaching?
Every member of the FC Copa Academy staff is highly qualified and carefully selected, every coach is a USSF and/or NSCAA licensed coach. Numerous coaches have professional, collegiate, high school and regional ODP coaching experience. What sets their staff apart is the energy and passion they have for the care and development of all athletes, striving for them to become their best selves as individuals. The coaching staff communicates a clear vision for individual players and teams with expectations and objectives to achieve throughout each respective year. There are no parent coaches at FC Copa.
8. Where will teams train and play?
All FC Copa Academy programs at Aviator will be conducted at Aviator’s 175,000+ square foot indoor facility, 35 acres of outdoor sports, events, entertainment and recreation complex; which include 2 indoor turfs, 2 basketball/futsal courts, 2 adjoining outdoor turf fields and a soon to be inaugurated Copa Futsal center.

10. How many teams will be in each age group?
Initially FC Copa will look to field 1 or 2 teams in each age group.
11. Outside of having teams what else will FC Copa bring?
FC Copa will look to offer soccer programming along with its partners for the local community via clinics, camps and Futsal. FC Copa is exploring a Copa Futsal specific center and will utilize Aviator’s 175,000+ square foot facility for academic guidance support services. We will have full time presence and branding at Aviator so players and parents feel at home in their soccer environment.
